I have stumbled upon your blog and have enjoyed reading your thoughts regarding rethinking church. After 16 years of paid ministry my husband has left his paid position at our church to take a regular job, due to much of the same thinking of bringing the Kingdom of God to the world. I just want to encourage you to continue to post your thoughts. Many Christians probably haven’t thought along these lines because they are consumers of the what the local church is offering. I believe the leaders will resonate most with what you have to say because many have felt the same as they evaluate the effectiveness of their ministry. So…thank you and keep the dialogue coming. I appreciate it!

And this is where you will lose most Christians. What is a valid definition of church? Scripture is clear that believers must be meeting together to encourage, grow, worship, and share in communion. Its funny to think about missionaries talking about churches/communities happening in houses, bars, night clubs, grass fields, etc and all are acceptable. However the American church is only valid if you are in a building, have and official service, take an offering, and have your vision statement posted on the wall.
